Whether you are new to Facebook and Twitter or an old pro, optimizing each network to attract customers to your business requires some basic knowledge to get the most out of your efforts.

Here are some tips on how to reach customers:

FACEBOOK

Create a Facebook page
While some people may say that Facebook use is declining, the fact is you need to be online, and Facebook still has the power and tools to garner high exposure to your customers.

Optimize your Facebook page
Your cover photo is the first impression people get of your Facebook page, and therefore your business. If possible, have a tagline on the photo that states the main benefit of why someone should like your page.

In the “About” section of your page, add your critical keywords. This section is indexed in Google and you get the chance to tell people more about what you do. Link to the key pages on your website you want to highlight, and add some testimonials from happy customers.

Create a content strategy
The biggest way people are going to interact with your Facebook page is through your posts. So you need to have a plan for what you’re posting and how often.

It’s best to have a mixture of business news, business information, tips, photos and videos. Also, post often; if you only post a few times a week, you could lose the possibility of your posts appearing on anyone’s news feed.

Best times to post: 1-4 p.m.
Worst time to post: 12-8 a.m.

BONUS TIP: Share content from the LiftMaster Facebook page daily.

TWITTER

Create a Twitter account
Businesses can tap into Twitter to expand their reach and connect with new and existing customers. Some ways your business can leverage Twitter are through increasing your brand awareness, providing timely customer service, and connecting with potential customers in a more personal way.

Have a strong profile
Before you start looking for customers on Twitter, you need to make sure that any potential customers who visit your profile know who you are and what you do.

Make sure that your products, services and qualifications are clearly listed in your profile along with your website link and location.

Build followers
A few ways to get started in building your followers include adding a Twitter follow button to your website and include a link to your Twitter profile in your email signature.

Next, search keywords and hashtags that relate to your business and audience, and interact with others by liking, retweeting and/or following them.

Create and execute a content strategy
Relevant content will help you attract new followers and keep them engaged over time. Create a schedule of content that’s relevant to your target audience and your business. Start with sending 2-5 original tweets a day and retweeting content from other similar conversations a few times as well.

Best times to tweet: 1-3 p.m.
Worst times to tweet: 8 p.m.-8 a.m.

BONUS TIP: Tweet and retweet content from the LiftMaster Twitter account and blog daily.
