Kurt, Service Tech extraordinaire!
“Don’t Compromise, Choose Cunningham!” That’s the motto of this month’s featured dealer, Cunningham Door. The business has been owned by the Cunningham family since their grandfather purchased it in the 1950’s and has been passed down from generation to generation to today’s current president, Chris Cunningham and his siblings Kevin, Vice President and Cindy, Treasurer.

Owners: Kevin Cunningham, Cindy Cunningham & Chris Cunningham

It’s unique to see a family owned business still thriving after so many years, and Chris attributes their success to the culture of the company. Many of the 48+ employees have been with the company for numerous years.  Chris believes their employees stay with Cunningham Door because of their approach to employee-management relationships. “I’m a firm believer that the way your employees treat your customers is a reflection of the way you treat your employees,” said Chris. “People tell me I have great people working here, and I couldn’t agree more. I feel comfortable being able to send anybody to help with a particular job because they have my trust and confidence. I am very proud to have the group of people that I work with every day.”  Another thing that makes Cunningham Door unique is their commitment to quality. They build a lot of custom high-end doors and take the time to make sure the job is done correctly and is the best fit for each specific job.

The company’s dedication to quality and service can also be seen in the day-to-day interactions with customers, even when the job gets a little tricky. For example, the team once got a service call to come assist with a door that was “out of the track.” Typically, that means a slight misalignment, but on this particular call the team arrived to find one garage door in the front yard and the other stuck behind the car in the garage! Although this job was more than a ‘slight misalignment’ the team handled the job and the customer was taken care of.

When Chris isn’t handling off the wall service calls or in meetings with his siblings, he loves to travel. Two of his favorite places he’s traveled to are Venice and Florence, Italy. The travel bug has also bit Cindy as Italy is one of her favorite destinations as well.  As for Kevin, he loves the outdoors and enjoys to ski and hike in the mountains . Although Chris admits he doesn’t have as much free time as he’d thought he would, he knows it’s for the best. He’s very passionate about the future of the company. He says “I believe it is critical that we have a business that will be here long after we are no longer a part of it. It is extremely important to me because I know that many times companies do not think about what they need to do to make their business successful for the day that someone else will take it over or how the decisions they make can affect their employees in the long run.”
